The Administration Building was built in 1895, with the east wing being added in 1913. The building once housed all the departments on the CFAES Wooster Campus. Today it houses the Renovations Planning Office, OSU Extension, USDA Business Office.


Shisler Center

The Arden Shisler Center for Education and Economic Development opened in August 2001 to provide the very finest environment for serious brain-storming sessions, collaborative exchanges of information and the development of creative solutions for education, business and industry. The center was named for Mr. Arden Shisler, former head of the Ohio Agriculture Commission and former Chairman of Nationwide Insurance, as an acknowledgment of his long-time support of sustained economic growth through improved communications and training. The Arden Shisler Center for Education and Economic Development is a full service meeting, conference and development facility unlike any other meeting venue in the Greater Cleveland area. We specialize in conference planning, event management and facilitation, business training and educational services, multimedia support and complete meeting packages designed to fit any budget.

Barnhart Rice House

Barnhart Rice Homestead

The Barnhart Rice Homestead, sometimes called the Stone House, was built in the 1820's from hand-hewn sandstone ashlar blocks quarried only a couple hundred yards from where it stands. The homestead is one of the very best surviving examples of German vernacular architecture that exists within Wayne County. Restoration and preservation of the Barnhard Rice Homestead is underway. The home has been restored to the time when it was constructed.  Perfect for family or corporate gatherings.   This venue features a farmhouse dining room table for 12 and a small adjacent breakfast room that seats 6.  The living room seats up to 20.  The working kitchen is perfect for your catering needs.

Research in the Center for Food Animal Health (CFAH) focuses on enhancing food safety, protecting the environment, and making animals and people healthier. CFAH researchers are using multidisciplinary and One Health approaches to make significant advances in food-animal production and animal and human health, with interrelated contributions to ecosystem sustainability. These scientific contributions will positively impact the lives of people of Ohio, the nation, and the global community.

The CFAES Wooster Administration building, formerly known as the Research Services building, was built in 1987. Here you will find the visitor center, CFAES administration, communication, the fiscal office, human resources, research operations and statewide research stations offices, and informational technology.    

 


Fisher Auditorium

Fisher Auditorium was built in 1968 and renovated in 2000. The Auditorium is named in honor of Ralph Fisher. The Fisher complex houses the 10,000 sq. ft. auditorium and over 8,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, in addition to the Communications and Technology production unit, video classroom, and OARDC research library. The Auditorium has 976 seats (+12 wheelchair accessible spaces), each padded and equipped with a fold down writing surface. The Auditorium stage is equipped with a motorized screen and may be used for a variety of purposes including workshops, ceremonies, and concerts. It also has two 3500 sq. ft. exhibit areas, all equipped with screen and dimmable lighting. The exhibit area is wireless, Ethernet and cable ready, also includes multiple microphone jacks and electrical outlets.

FABE Building

Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) Building

In 2010, a tornado laid waste to the Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) research building and greenhouses on the OARDC Wooster campus. On May 10, 2012, a groundbreaking ceremony took place for the new FABE building. Two years later our FABE employees have a new place to call home.

Gerlaugh Hall was built in 1966 and named for Dr. Paul Gerlaugh, former chairman of the Animal Science Department. The building houses the Department of Animal Sciences

Built in 1950, Gourley Hall was named for J.H. Gourley who served as chairman of the Horticulture Department from 1921 to 1946. The building houses the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science

Pounden Hall was totally remodeled in 2010. It  houses a university start up lab and a Center for Food Animal Health lab as well as office space and a conference room.

 


Secrest Arboretum

The 85-acre Secrest Arboretum was established in 1909 by Edmund Secrest, the first state forester of Ohio. Although it is a research arboretum, over 7,000 people visit the gardens annually. The Ohio Nursery, landscaping industry and master gardeners depend on the Arboretum for training programs and evaluation of new plant introductions. The public simply enjoys its beauty and serenity. The Secrest Arboretum Support Council supports programs, planning and development. Many of the trees were lost in the tornado and about $400,000 in private donations have allowed restoration projects to develop rapidly. Another $20,000 has been donated for a beautification project on the core campus.

Selby Hall was named for Augustine Selby, head of the Botany Department from 1906-1923. The building was built in 1972. Selby Hall houses the Department of Plant Pathology and the Molecular and Cellular Imaging Center (MCIC)


Simon Rice House

This white brick house was built by Simon Rice around 1822 and is the second house to be built on lands that would later belong to the OARDC. The house is now home to the CFAES Wooster Campus Public Safety.


Thorne House

The original homestead of the Wooster Campus Director, the Thorne House features a dining room, kitchen, breakfast bar, three bedrooms with three queen sized beds, and one room with a queen-sized pull-out bed, this venue is perfect for everyone to come together for your next gathering. The first floor has been renovated to its original look and Victorian style.  The dining room is the perfect place for your next executive board meeting, family gathering.  Perfect for baby or wedding showers, this home is a hidden gem on our campus.

Williams Hall

Williams Hall was built in 1957 and named for Carlos G. Williams, the second director of the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station, 1921-1937. An addition was completed in 1967. Williams Hall houses the Department of Horticulture and Crop Sciences, the School of Environment and Natural Resources and the USDA Soft Wheat Quality Laboratory.

The facility houses the research functions for the Department of Entomology, while also serving the campus’s undergraduate population by incorporating chemistry teaching labs and associated support space. Lab and support spaces were designed to accommodate multiple uses by a variety of departments. The building serves as a hub for the campus’s community outreach programs by including the United Titanium Bug Zoo and 100-student multi-purpose classroom space that can be utilized for classes as well as industry teaching sessions. The CFAES Cafe is located in the public zone of the building and is designed to promote interactions between various campus faculty, staff and campus visitors. The laboratory areas consist of open labs, support space and offices/seminar areas.
