Eclipse

Join us April 8 on the CFAES Wooster campus for the total solar eclipse.

Things to Know

  • Public parking will open at 8 a.m. at the main entrance (1680 Madison Ave.). Once lots are full, campus will close to public vehicles. View the visitor map here.
  • Limited quantities of eclipse glasses will be available to the public.
  • Science day will include information on campus programs, live simulcast of video of the eclipse, hands-on activities such as visiting the Secrest Arboretum, the United Titanium Bug Zoo and BUGmobile, disc golf, a drum ring as well as information from Ohio State University Extension programs. The day will start at 10 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m.
  • Food trucks and temporary restroom facilities will be available.
  • Most campus buildings will be locked except where Science Day activities will be held (the Wooster Science Building and the Fisher Auditorium).
  • No smoking, firearms, or alcohol are allowed anywhere on campus.

About the viewing

Our campus is in the path of totality for the solar eclipse. Local safety and security services anticipate an increased volume of visitors to the area. Limited quantities of eclipse glasses will be available. Eclipse viewing from roughly 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Parking

  • Entering and exiting the campus will be regulated per guidances from public safety services. View the visitor map here.
  • Starting at 8 a.m., visitors will be allowed on-campus ONLY via the main Madison Avenue entrance with parking available in the Fisher Auditorium north and south lots. This entrance will be staffed, and, once the lots are full, public access will be closed.
  • ALL exiting will be via Secrest Road and Gerlaugh Road, and will ONLY be allowed to turn eastbound (right).
  • No overnight parking is permitted.

Faculty, staff and students

  • The CFAES Wooster Campus will not be closed, however you are encouraged to work remotely.  Those volunteering and those required to be on-campus will be permitted. Please work with your supervisors to understand on-campus expectations. Please also keep in mind that traffic on local roads in Wayne County may be heavier than normal.
  • Ohio State faculty, staff and students needing to be on-campus will enter via the Secrest Rd. and Gerlaugh Rd. entrance starting at 7 a.m. This entrance will be staffed, and those with a BuckID or USDA-ARS identification card will be allowed to park anywhere except the public parking lots. OSU personnel may exit at any time.
