Faculty Spotlight: Ram Yadav

Ram YadavDr. Ram Yadav is a Specialty Crop Weed Scientist in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science at OSU CFAES Wooster. Dr. Yadav started his current position in August 2024. Prior to joining OSU CFAES, Dr. Yadav was working at the University of Wyoming as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. He completed his Ph.D. at Iowa State University Department of Agronomy, Ames, IA in December 2021. He received his M.S. degree from Punjab, India and B.S. degree from Rajasthan, India. Dr. Yadav previously worked on developing multi-tactic strategies to manage herbicide-resistant weeds in agronomic crops, including wheat, barley, corn, soybean, sugar beet, and dry bean based cropping systems. Dr. Yadav’s current research focuses on developing multi-tactic weed control strategies for Ohio fruit and vegetable production systems utilizing improved understanding of crop-weed interactions. Specific research areas include herbicide use optimization, stale seedbed approach, cover crops, targeted tillage, weed electrocution, and improved crop production practices. Dr. Yadav has statewide extension, research and teaching responsibilities.

Describe your work: Research and develop applied weed management practices to reduce weed impacts on crops for fruit and vegetable growers across the state.  

How has OSU/your career impacted your life?: I grew up on a farm and have been working with growers throughout my life personally and professionally. The OSU provided me a space where I can continue to work directly with growers on their weed management challenges through applied research.

Tell us about your family/pets: I grew up in a joint family and I am the only child of my parents. I do not have a pet here, but I do have a bunch back at home. We have cows and buffaloes for milk, and a dog and a few cats as semi-pet.  

What is your hometown?: Jaipur, India

What is something you would like to learn?: I would like to learn how to be more diplomatic.

What is your favorite restaurant or food?: My favorite food and restaurant are Indian and Mexican.

What is a talent or superpower you wish you had?: I wish we humans could photosynthesize just like plants.

Where is your favorite place to vacation?: My native village.
