Directors' Message

We are winding down the autumn semester and 2025, a year that included many challenges. Our campus and our college responded to SB1 and overall enrollment, to uncertainties in state and federal budgets, to limited and delayed research opportunities, and to issues with buildings and facilities. At every step of the way, our campus and our college persevered. While we still lack clarity and certainty for a few issues, we are certain of the resilience of our campus and our college in the semesters and years ahead.

The past few weeks brought many opportunities for others to learn more about CFAES Wooster and the impact of our campus. Along with Dean Kress, we hosted Dr. John Horack, VP for Research at OSU and members of his team at the Enterprise for Research Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK). We also held a visit with Regional Campus Deans and Dr. Eric Anderman (Vice Provost for Regional Campuses) to promote collaboration and facilitate success in students and research. This continued coordination is critical as students, and their families, gain interest in OSU’s Regional Campus Commitment.

In this issue, we highlight progress on our turfgrass projects. Three ATI Alums are providing their support, time and experience to transform teaching and research in turfgrass: John Prusa, Ryan DeMay and Craig Schreiner. Sod was planted in a few areas just before the recent snowfall, and our work will continue in the spring 2026.

A special thank you to Maren Drzazga, an ATI student helping with our newsletter this semester. As a final reminder, President Carter has instituted an Academic Winter Recess from December 26 to 31. Please see the Academic Winter Recess page for more instructions and guidance. I hope that everyone uses this time to connect and recharge for an exciting Spring 2026 semester.
